My current and continuing work in progress is a memoir about my life as a survivor. I have survived childhood physical, mental and sexual abuse, an abusive drunken husband and mental illness. None of it has been easy but I ended up with a life which is perfect for me, which I share with my wonderful husband. I have bipolar disorder which used to be called manic depressive disorder, a term I prefer, and because of both choice and circumstances I am not medicated. My memoir Surviving All of Me, will explain why and how I’ve gotten to this point in my life, a viewpoint I don’t see in other memoirs about mental illness. I want to reduce the stigma that surrounds those of us with a mental illness, let people know they are not alone and to share some hope. While I continue to write my memoir, I will be attending SNHU pursuing a degree in English and blogging on this website at least once a week. As the memoir progress, I may post some chapters on the website as I complete them. I have a very organized plan in place but as those of us who struggle with mental illness know, there are some parts of the disorder we can’t plan for or control. I do know I will try everyday to not let the disorder win, if for no other reason than to be able to give hope to those without any.
